Excess

July 6th, 2006 at 12:11 am

Yesterday I did what millions of Americans did, I went to a cookout.

I sat under the big oak tree eating my hamburger, numerous side dishes and a thought ran trough my head that wouldn't of been there last year on this same day. Excessive !!!!!

Everything was excessive,there were hamburgers,hotdogs,steak,sausage,chicken,shrimp,potato salad,potato casserole,
potato chips,pasta salad,salad,broccoli salad,fruit salad,baked beans,corn on the cob,cheese ball,bean dip,5 kinds of soda,3 kinds of beer,lemonade,water,wine coolers,3 kinds of pie,3 kinds of cake,grape nut pudding,jello squares,cheese cake,ice cream and smores.

All this food for roughly 20 people,I have to say it made me sick. I can't even imagine the cost.

Why the need for such excess ???

I know what you mean. Dh and I went on a cruise about 15 years ago. We had a wonderful time but the amount of food offered, and, I assume, wasted really bothered me. I don't know if I'd ever go on another one simply for that reason.

It's the same thing for me at Christmastime. The excess of everything really sets me on edge because of all the people who have nothing. We always do a Christmas hamper and give to The Salvation Army and other charities, but I can't get my head around all the people who are suffering. I think I've inherited my Jewish Grandmother's guilt complex...
